No way I do video with OtsAV DJ  pro 1.85 .076 fully licenced version but having downloaded the 30 day trial version of 1.90 Esperance and choosing just one folder of various Ots video files i can report that all will play happily on the old work horse version as they have always done?

However with Esperance 1.90 only some of the video Ots files play and others produce a red & black screen message stating  error loading video and play just the audio only and this message can not be removed other than by turning the video screens off!!

Have no idea why the same video files will show and load in Ots AV DJ pro 1.85 and not in this new Esperance 1.90 but there is no way I will be using it this weekend or in the future until I get some help and support from OTS as I feel we are being used as Beta testers for their new software.

And as we only perform with video and use very little audio now, I would have no idea what was going to play or not!!!

So No way will I be trying it as it is no where up the OTS I want love and respected in the past!!!

Sort it out Ots or tell your customers that at present it is only useable for audio and forget it for video as i noticed you have greyed out the HD functions so you obviously have issues you have not resolved?

I look forward to a reply from the software designers at Ots and anyone on the forum that would like to comment as well?

John our customers ARE using video every day of the week in large numbers. Your problem is that you are comparing apples with oranges. You're obviously running 1.85 in one internal video resolution and 1.90 in a lower resolution. If you change 1.85 to the same res, you'll get the same black bars! Conversely if you up the res of 1.90 to the same res as your 1.85, you'll be able to play the videos just fine in 1.90. That's a limitation of the lower res mode with higher res videos and has been how ALL OtsAV editions have worked going right back to when video was introduced in 2006. There's no significant change to video between 1.85 and 1.90 (and any changes are all positive, such as now supporting PNG images in the slideshow feature), including your second point of the HD menus being greyed out. That's simply a function of which license you have. You need a TV Broadcaster license for HD to be enabled. Nothing new there. Re your beta testers comment... are you serious? If we wanted you to beta test you'd have been running this months ago. I would have thought it would be fairly obvious we take our quality control standards very seriously, but I guess those black and red bars really got to you :)

Take care,
Adam

P.S. Just saw Nicolee's comment. Correct.

P.P.S. Jeff, the message doesn't display on the main screen. I believe you've misinterpreted John's comment. All it is is a simple message to the user in the mini deck monitor informing of the error. It absolutely is not mixed in the main video stream or displayed to the audience, LOL.

:p Hi guys fair enough it does now work OK but if you could have been here when I was playing these video files on my old software and the new software  one after the other and all played perfectly in my old software and not all in the new! Yes I did get a little hot under the collar as a suggestion for an update issue why not flash up the message Error loading Video Resolution too low  as this would help any of us to correct an operator error without having to contact the support team. I do need some help with the looping feature as I have no manual instructions to refer to?

Also like others are saying on other threads I am disappointed that Esperance does not now play MP4 video files as I buy them from Promo only as MP4 format so then have to convert to either vob or Mpeg 2 and then they can be converted with the studio to Ots files!

Of course again if someone knows of a quicker way to convert these files I receive in MP4 format I would be very grateful to hear about it please?

Adam if you are saying in order to play HD quality videos I have to spend even more money? I do think I will have to take another look at Virtual DJ 8 when it is released as I also hold a full pro version licence for that so I will receive a free upgrade when released!!

Video music entertainment is the future and we should not be expected to have to purchase a TV broadcast licence just to offer our clients HD quality video?

That's how I feel and I am prepared to stand up and be counted for my comments on this forum!
Another question to Adam or anyone at OTS I purchased an additional licence in May to enable me to upgrade to Esperance when released!
After checking my licences this licence is not shown which is why I could not download a full version on Eperance!
How can this error be resolved please?

Thank you

its not really a big deal to convert files from mp4 to mpeg2 and then to OTS.

and remember part of the reason ots runs so smoothly is because of the .ots files.

mp4 files need a lot more processing than mpeg2's, so its more work for the cpu to have to do.

You can play HD quality videos entirely for free. Just use VLC player. Virtual DJ is free too isn't it? Last I heard it was - I personally never really look at the competition.

I don't think anyone's expecting anything of you, except maybe your clients. How you handle them and what result you get and which tools you use of course is entirely up to you - but it may have some impact on the result. On the plus side, it could also save you a lot of money if you manage to find a free tool that truly addresses all of your needs without compromising any areas of importance to you and your clients. The clients that use our high-end products, such as TV Broadcaster obviously know what they want and can discern the differences - otherwise they'd definitely save money by using Winamp or Media Player or even Virtual DJ. I can't speak for them individually obviously, but considering this is one of our largest areas of growth you'd have to conclude that what Ots does is pretty special. So comparisons to these other tools is probably unfair or at least unmeaningful. If you're happy to use Virtual DJ and it handles all of your needs, then why not? I'm not a great person to ask because I have a diametrically opposed philosophical position to what appears to be the Virtual DJ way of doing things.

It's been stated at the Esperance page that an announcement will be made for people in that category. If you purchased a license in that timeframe, then you definitely qualify for free upgrade to Esperance, but you'll have to follow the outlined procedures as was explained in the FAQ back at the time. It is not an automated process (unfortunately in this case), so please be patient - we're obviously experiencing an extremely high degree of contact at this time, and even though we expected that, it's far more than even we anticipated :)

Adam just to keep you up to date I bought my Virtual DJ Pro version software 5 years ago before finding Ots AV it was not free it cost me £315 but the difference is Atomix who produce virtual DJ is they allow their licenced customers to install the software on any PC or laptop they legally own, so we do not have to keep buying many licences, also as a fully legal pro software user they provide free all future software updates instead of charging their customers!! Something OTS needs to seriously think about because believe it or not we are in a recession and we can't keep paying out every time you make a few changes some for the better and some not so good if you study this forum since your release of Esperance!!

Regarding my purchase of a third licence in May 2012, so you are telling me having taken my money you can not get my licence ready to allow me to download a full version of Esperance when it was released instead of this this 30 day trial version that keeps telling me to buy a licence and some of the features can't be turned off! That is 4 months how long does it take to process an order!! I suggest you show this letter to your managing director as customer service to your clients is discusting!! I can see why you never told us anything about what was coming in Esperance as to be honest if I had waited before purchasing a licence to upgrade to Esperance I would not have bothered personally!!

John,

I assume you have been in touch with Ots directly about your license issue. I have always found the tech support and Cust service top class personally. Hopefully you get your issue resolved.

Hi All
This is John from Music2Party. Used VDJ last night instead of Ots AV for my wedding gig and it froze!! The audio kept playing but the program was not responding and as soon as it finished the song playing that was it? Sound stopped !!Could not close it or anything had to use Ctrl Alt Del to close it! I was using the auto mix and used the mouse to change the track when it happened, was also using clickbank to show video transitions?
I have never had this all the time I used Ots AV 1.85 ? So is VDJ no good for video unless you have the lasted laptop and win 7?? NO reading their forum reports they are full of problems no matter what spec your laptop is!! So VDJ is not a replacement option!

But me not silly!!  As we run a fully professional business I had also plugged in my Ots files H.D and was able to start my OTS program and continue without any problems for the rest of the night. A Big thank you OTS AV 1.85 you again as you have been doing for 3 years + saved the day!

The moral of this story is if it is not broken don't try to fix it!! Not Kean on Esperance but no problem still with 1.85

I went live with OtsAVDJ 1.90 this weekend, Fri & Sat nights.

My main DJ PC is an hp Pavilion SE5 along with Denon HC4500 + X900.

Both gigs (same venue) were 8hrs (each) of pure adrenalin and at no point during that time did I feel unsure with v1.90.

I found it to be as stable as it's predecessors and much easier to navigate. With previous versions I have relied on the mouse for navigation/selection ... on Fri/Sat, I hardly used the mouse because it was smoother to use the keyboard.

I sandboxed the looping the other day, but didn't actually use it over the weekend. However, the snapping ability really made mixing without headphones much easier.

I am eager to see whatever updates are in the pipeline but so far, for me at least,

I can see 1.85 remaining very popular,,after all is it close to perfect, and rock solid.

I wouldnt change to anything else...

Hi me again following on from my last post about how solid 1.85 is with XP is anyone running win 7  32bit and using Ots 1.85 or 1.90 successfully as I have an update available but have never had the balls to install it! As it runs so well on XP but if the pc guys are saying the support and updates for XP will stop soon should I upgrade to Win7 32 bit?

Any advice would be much welcomed

Look at it this way - manufacturer support for the Ford Model T ended quite some time ago, but I saw one on the road (looking amazing) last week in the Scottish Borders.

Just because support is going for XP, doesn't mean your XP will suddenly be useless.  Whatever software you are running now will continue to run.  When you need to buy a new PC - either because yours has broken down beyond economical repair or you wish to use software that requires a more modern hardware platform, worry about the operating system choice then.

Personally I won't get Windows 8 until at least 12 months after its release - it normally takes software vendors a few months to catch up with the operating system - in some cases much longer.   The changes between Windows XP and Windows 7 from a user's point of view are along the lines of "oh that looks pretty" and "where have they moved this setting to?".  For example: Windows Explorer no longer selects the file extension when you rename a file and 'Add or Remove Programs" has been renamed to "Programs and Features".  The latter is only a big deal if you have the items in the control panel sorted alphabetically and expect it to be at the top.

Behind the scenes:  I think the basic guts of Windows 7 and Windows XP aren't massively different.  Of course Windows 7 comes in both 32 bit and 64 bit varieties, but the advantages of a 64 bit architecture only really come into play when you are trying to access very large amounts of data quickly.  It's not as obvious an advantage to a programmer as the switch between 16 bit and 32 bit.

For now, I've stuck with Windows 7 32 bit.  I will bite the bullet and go 64 - most of the applications I wish to use have native 64bit versions and most of the 32 bit applications I wish to use will run fine under WOW64 (where Windows 7 squirrels away 32 bit applications with their own registry and file system).  From a consumer point of view - eventually all applications will be 64 bit and you wont know if an application you currently use will work on 64 bit Windows 7 until you try it.

If I can refresh your memory we have never finish our HML mod on my Hercules RMX we were working on together? We got the slider start working but never sorted out the buttons each side to turn it on or off? As i guess this same HML will work when I start to test run 1.90
