Hi @DJ_Zath,

Yes, I'm doing well thanks.  Hoping you are well and healthy too, especially in these Covid times.

Well I've carried the show for several years now, and there's been no mention of money.  I think (I'm not 100% sure) that Rob - the host - is offering the show to commercial stations for money, but no charge for non-commercial stations.  There are also no sponsors or ads.

What I meant was that I open Ots Studio, open the Ots album file that contains the top 40 countdown, remove each track in the album file, then do a Ctrl-W (import new media) and import the new MP3s into the Ots album file.  Save, rescan, done.

hello Mixfm buddy; I hope you're doing well and are healthy, safe and happy.

this reminds me of when I tried to acquire "the Dr. Demento show" for WARP many years back.. although, it was offered to many stations for free, they wanted to charge me $100.00 per show AND I have to include/air all their ads/commercials!

it may have been a good show- but it wasn't that good!

oh, what did you mean to "remove" tracks? (did you mean to "combine" tracks?) I have a similar situation where I'm sent program material in chunks and I have to convert FLAC to WAV and then import said chunks into Studio to fix tag info and then export as album files.  Although I have the conversion process fully-automated, Studio can still be a bear sometimes as its interface and procedures can be rather clunky.

now 8 months in... and still no improvements!  (sigh)

I hope everyone is healthy (NO COVID, Monkeypox or whatever ELSE comes out of China...), safe (every freaking day... another shooting!) and, most-importantly, HAPPY!

Hello,

My station carries the NZ Retro Weekly Top 40 Countdown show.  It's a weekly show which takes a year from the late 70s, 80s, or early 90s, and plays the top 40 hits from this week in that year.

I have nothing to do with the show - I just air it on my station.  It's hosted by Rob Walker and produced by Aaron Anderson.  They have been making it available free of charge to non-commercial radio stations.  If you operate a non-profit radio station and you're interested in carrying that show, let me know and I'll put you in touch.

You can listen to past episodes here, to give you an idea:  https://www.mixcloud.com/NZ_Retro_Weekly_Top_40/

I'm also happy to share how I schedule it in Ots.  The only thing I have to do manually each week is:

  • Open OTS file
  • Remove the 16 tracks (the show is in 16 parts)
  • Import the new tracks and save
  • Do an Easy Scan

That's it!

Apparently, there is a Facebook equivalent of this forum, which is frequented oftener by the developers than here. I wouldn't know, because, as a professional person on several levels, I don't "do" social media.

I don't do social media either, but I did peek through the curtains at the FB page.  It appears to have been comandeered by two people, an admin and a mod, who decided that as things had gone quiet they would flood the page with postings of music videos from Youtube.  They then changed the rules to make that OK and now threaten to ban anyone who objects!

Hooray for this forum!

I'll chime in to say we don't require new hosting, and automated backups run to keep all the content here safe. We're good.

I've only just re-found this forum after years of not using it, and it's already given me more value than ever.

I've used OTS as my main playout for DJing both live and small-scale radio since first downloading a copy in 1997 - what a year that was!

Kev - If you are looking to host it, then great.  If not, I have a fair amount of resources available on my web server too and would happily carry the site for a couple of years.  I'd even try to help upgrade the forum version as I used to run a myPHPBB site as well.  SMF isn't all that different in terms of how it works.

As Lane suggested, Ots has never really been radio friendly.

It's original name was OtsJuke and was supposed to have replaced the jukebox, then it morphed to OtsAVDJ, OtsAVRD and OtsAVTV when we thought that there may be some tailoring to each particular stream, and addressing their specific needs. Sure, we got S&L which went part of the way towards scheduling sound hours, and logging the details for subsequent APRA reporting, but it was only a token gesture towards the many radio/TV specific needs - jingle inserts to name just one.

That is not to say it can't be used for a local Community Station. I'm sure there are many who use it that way, but, in many cases, that is just like plugging your home system into a transmitter or streaming service and playing your favourite tunes - many long streets away from what is needed for a REAL radio station environment.

I own a terrestrial radio station in Australia, and the thought of using Ots for the playout software never crossed my mind, but, for my home music room, it works just fine.

Like Milky I find Ots still suitable for my needs.
