First post is more of a backgrounder.

As some of you know, I am back into DJing full time after a VERY short (22 month) retirement. All new sound systems, lighting and even attitude to the gigs I am doing now.

Back before my "retirement" I used to be VERY predictable. Practically the same sets/songs every gig (just with a variation as to when it was played), more an emphasis on retro and classic hits and very, and I mean VERY few new releases being played.

The one REAL nice thing is I can be at home and care for my little girl Jessica and she does not have to deal with day-homes or day-care etc. She has dad with here and she is, I think, the better for it.

As you can see, there is some VERY similar sets and lead ins for both samples. I was in a rut, and seemingly did not want to get out. Then I "retired" in 2007. Sold all my gear in September 2008 thinking it was all over.

Then October 2008, Christine comes home and tells me that her work wants me to DJ for them. So I rush out and get all new sound gear and work on putting together a new show.

Before all my playback (mixer, CD Player, etc) was what I termed as "modular"...meaning it was not cased and I simply laid them out on the table in a functional manner, but ensured my cables were hidden as much as possible. Now, I have a roadcase and ensure I have my setup as clean as possible.

And my music I play...well I do still like one or two tried and true sets I used to use, but even they have had small changes. I am totally current on my new music and am more open to playing most anything, as long as it is clean. dance, trance, top 40, urban I play it all now and my parties are much more successful.

I guess in the end, what I needed was some time away from the rigors of gigging each week, and by having time off, came back with new enthusiasm for the events.

Yeah that could be a problem as they are always pretty much requested together, but then again I could always throw in something new that is old school too. Ah yes, making playing the tunes fun again. That is the biggest challenge.
