What I'd like to be able to do is just to extend some music vids by making a loop,

ie, on Riverside for example, theres 4 beats st the beginning that could be looped to make a 16 beat ( 4 bar ) intro.

Of course I cant even do this live by the way, because I use OTS AV :)

So would really like to be able to make some looped versions.

Eventually I'd like to go further and make more elabortate extended Vids,,

But just some simple ones for now,,,

So what software should I get ???

And does anyone else on here do this ???

Jeff, i use pinaccle studio 14.  Basically, what i like to do is take regular videos and i re-edit them with dance mixes from like funkymix, ultimix and x-mix.  I do mostly clubs with videos and I like the mixes better, but not techno-ish.  I like the intros and outros for mixing, especially with ots and the beat mixing technology.

Darryl

I have an older version of Pinaccle studio - it does the job - but it seems to take ages to fit the video to the new audio track.  On some dance videos there are very few clues as to where the video should go in relation to the audio and often the speed of the video is slightly different to the 12" audio track - so I have to keep inserting other bits of video to keep the lip sync!

If anyone video editing like this would be willing to give me a demo of doing this in their software, I could make a judgement on which ones are easier to work with - any volunteers?

Have fun,
Darryl.

Darryl, I be happy to send over a video to give you an idea of what i do, it's pretty easy, but ofcourse i'm thousands of videos in.  Basically with pinnacle, i add both the vid and the music track to the editing area.  I mute the audio of the mp3 and find a part in a song, usually the beginning of the first word of a chorus or refrain.  I split the track and mute the audio of the vid and unmute the audio of the mp3.  I then listen to mp3 and move the split vid to the point where they match up.  It sometimes takes a few trys to get it perfect, but if you zoom in on the two at the point its easier.  From there you check thru the song to see if it matches all the way thru.  Sometimes you'll have to resplit the video and move it in case of a dance section like you'll find in alot of dance mixes. Now some songs you'll have to adjust the speed of the video in the vidoe toolbox, but again that some times takes a few trys to get used to.  From there all you have to do is add the beginning of the video clip back to the song and then what I do is take clips of the video (Usually the refrain) and copy and paste it at the beginning and end (with funkymix, sometimes even in the middle at the dance breaks.) and usually i'll put some kind of cool effect on the copied parts.  Remove the audio from the video and create the new file.  It sounds long and confusing, but most videos i do I can do in a couple minutes and the end effect is pretty sick, esp. with ots.

Darryl

That's similar to what I did - except I removed the audio from the imported video file and had to manually find the point from the original.  Your way sounds good.  Might need to upgrade to the latest Pinnacle though - mine is rather old.

Have fun,
Darryl.

Thats the sort of thing I'm hoping to be able to do in the future,,,

It takes time to learn whatever program your using.  I just learned today how to use certain effects.  So its definately a learning process.

I've reformatted this laptop since I last used it so I'm not able to check - I think it was 10 and I upgraded to 12.  Checked my emails, but couldn't find it.  It came with a video capture card I bought circa 2006...  I see from the website that they have improved the user interface in 14 to make it easier to use (possibly related to the connection to Avid that they didn't have when I got the video card).  If you've used older versions and 14 is it worth the upgrade (there's only $30 between the upgrade and the full product - so I might just buy the full one anyway)?

Have fun,

Thirty bucks is worth all the extra transitions and stuff like that easily.  I started with 10 and I'm upto 14 ultimate.  But honestly, I"m not sure if I needed ultimate.  I can say since i started with 10, you could definately do what i do with 10, but for 30 i'd upgrade.  Let me know how it goes and if you want me to send over a demo, email me.

Darryl

Thanks for the offer. I'll buy the latest full version and have a go. Won't be for a couple of weeks though - January is skint month in this house!

Have fun,
Darryl
